Resilience, the ability to bounce back from a difficult situation, isn’t just something people are born with, but it’s a skill they can learn with the right support. Recent world events have presented significant challenges to children, so supporting their mental health is more important than ever. Dominion Hospital proudly offers inpatient, outpatient, and virtual programs to help youth build the skills they need to cope with all of life’s challenges.
Youth Summer Programming – June 22nd – August 21st
Our interactive summer groups are designed to promote life skills and coping strategies to relieve the increasing pressure on mental health caused by current circumstances and the “new normal.” For the 4th summer in a row, we will be providing our school age patients a toolbox full of resilience skill resources to allow children and adolescents the opportunity to better deal with these uncertain times.
In addition to toolboxes, we are excited to resume summer STEAM-based group projects that will guide the patient’s inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. By integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics into our social and emotional clinical curriculum, youth patients will learn to better manage everyday circumstances and stressful life situations, while revisiting hands-on, mind-on experiences not existing in the recent work-from-home quarantine
Groups and activities are led by trained clinical and expressive therapists, education coordinators, and psychiatric RNs, creating a safe and structured environment in which to learn, grow, and become more resilient. Youth will develop a larger toolbox full of skills which they can use for a lifetime!
Toolbox Topics Include:
- Safe environments
- Establishing healthy routines
- Culture and equity
- Building relationships and connectedness
- Supporting emotional regulation
- Resilience skill building
